Indian Railways takes a step ahead towards the next level of customer satisfaction. Government owned IRCTC is one of the most visited travel booking sites in the country. The Corporation has announced that passengers from now on need not print (ERS or Electronic reservation slip or e-ticket) the reservation ticket and carry with them. It has launched virtual tickets with the Virtual Reservation Message (VRM).
Virtual Reservation Message (VRM) - A screen-shot of the e-ticket displayed through laptops/palmtops/ Mobile phone is referred as Virtual Reservation Message (VRM). VRM along with any one of the eight prescribed ID proofs in original and the indication of the passenger(s)' name(s) in the Reservation Chart will authorize the passenger to travel.
VRM combined with valid photo-id in original will be treated as an instrument on par with the ERS.
VRM along with one of the eight prescribed proofs of identity in original will also authorize the passenger to enter the platform on the day of journey and he/she will not be required to purchase platform ticket. VRM along with original id proof will be required to be produced on demand of Ticket Checking Staff on the platform.
VRM is going to become a revolutionary step in Indian Railways History.
With this we can save so many papers, if everyone produces their ticket in e-format. IRCTC has reported 13.2 million online rail ticket transactions for August 2011 although only 75.93% were successful transactions. So in one month 13.2 million printouts, so think such a huge figure in wastage of paper.
So Say Bye Bye To Train Ticket Printouts, Use VRM now onwards.
Note: Keep your mobile/laptop/palmtop battery full. Because you have to show VRM for your entire journey. Sometimes you have to show to the TC if he asks, who is at the exit of your destiny railway station.
